Artist's Description
This is a digitally enhanced photo of The Nantahala River that runs through the middle of The Great Smokey Mountains in Cherokee North Carolina. Two-lane U.S. Highway 19/74, once part of the Trail of Tears, runs along the river, picnic areas dotting the route. The heavy fog was lifting as morning broke over the river.

Thank You Cheri, it was funny. I chased the fog that morning for almost an hour. I would see the shot and before I could get out and down to the river the fog had lifted. It was an interesting morning.

Michael, when I saw this photo, I suspected that it was the Nantahala. This is such a representative capture - showing the lush vegetation and mist hanging over the water as it does in early morning. I've rafted this river several times, and really appreciate this great shot! voted
